BP Digitally Alters Press Photos
Contrary to BP’s assertion that no oil was leaking from the damaged well in Gulf of Mexico, after they installed the cap, the leakage, although slowed, never totally stopped. And today the latest news is, BP is digitally altering press photos to hide the truth.
I am not sure if the Tea Party champion Kentucky Senate hopeful Rand Paul will still stand by his words, in criticizing President Barack Obama.
"What I don't like from the president's administration is this sort of 'I'll put my boot heel on the throat of BP,'" he said on ABC's "Good Morning America" program. "I think that sounds really un-American in his criticism of business."
For me however, it appears that anyone defending BP sounds un-American. Just think of how many American families’ livelihood has been affected by this disaster, and the continuing ecological damage that would go on for many years.
On April 29 I had written,
At first, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was not significant, now President Barack Obama is stepping up the government’s response to the spill, which has become a matter of “national significance.” The oil slick is now expected to hit the shore in the Mississippi Delta region by late Friday.
It is therefore evident that from the very beginning BP’s intention was to deceive the U.S. tax payers. It was nonetheless, unthinkable that BP would stoop to the level of photo shopping to massage data.
Technorati followers would remember that on May 3, I commented that all this could be avoided with a $500,000 remote switch.
Countries such as Norway and Brazil mandate use of acoustic switches that could close a valve located on the ocean floor and stop oil flow remotely. The U.S. considered mandating such a remote-controlled shut-off mechanism several years ago, but dropped it on strong resistance from the drilling companies who wanted to save cost.
It was not only BP, but all other oil companies, and the U.S. government as well that colluded in waving the requirements of the acoustic switch, and it beats me, why even after three months of devastation no one is talking of changing the laws and make the remote switch a requirement for all off shore oil drilling operations.
