Nine Principles of Being Dressed for Success
If the eyes are the window of the soul, your personal style is a mirror and reflective of your mindset.
As an image consultant, I spend a lot of time in the intimate space of my clients’ offices, homes, closets and minds.
One day, as I was leaving one of my client’s homes, it became blatantly apparent that successful men have a similar mindset and share common habits that support their success. They are organized, strategic, resourceful and consistent in their thinking, wardrobe and style. These character traits are reflected in what they wear, how they wear it and why. And I believe that anyone, well-heeled or not, can adopt these habits to look great, feel great and, most importantly, attract success by being dressed with success.
Here are some tips for success with your business wardrobes:
1. Be Organized
Successful men are organized. Their offices, closets and attire reflect an organized mind. They know that a well-ordered closet creates consistency and avoids unnecessary (and wasteful) wardrobe duplication.
2. Wear a Uniform
Successful men have a signature style. Their style is part of their personal brand. It’s the authentic face they present to friends and strangers alike. Their wardrobe represents consistency in thought and creates an impression that endures.
3. Make an Investment
Successful men understand the benefits of investing in better clothing. They are aware of the credibility factor associated with investing in themselves before asking others to invest in their company, product of service.
4. Hire an Expert
Successful men don’t wing it or guess it. They don’t leave their personal brand to chance. Consequently, most of them invested in securing honest, objective style direction early in their careers. And many dressed the part long before they had it.
