Ricky Martin, with his twin boys, named Matteo and Valentino.

Long suspected, but never confirmed (until now) Latin singer Ricky Martin has confronted the rumors of his sexual orientation.

The singer, known for his hot dance tracks like "Livin' La Vida Loca,""Shake Your Bon Bon," and "She Bangs" had been dogged by rumors he was gay for years. Ricky began his career in the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo and was able to successfully transition from that to an adult music career.

Ricky came to the decision to come forward about his homosexuality while writing his memoirs, according to his statement. Martin also cited concerns for his career as the reason he chose to remain silent amidst the growing rumors, but during his soul-searching, he came to an epiphany. Here's a portion of his statement from his website where he made the official announcement:

These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed.

What will happen from now on? It doesn't matter. I can only focus on what's happening to me in this moment. The word "happiness" takes on a new meaning for me as of today. It has been a very intense process. Every word that I write in this letter is born out of love, acceptance, detachment and real contentment. Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and vital part of my evolution.

I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.

Well, good for you Ricky.  Living a lie is a sad way to go through life and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being true to yourself.  Now go forth, and make good music we can all dance to in an uninhibited way.
