Jack Armstrong Speaks On The Modern Art Scene's Corruption
One of the most unique artists on the scene today is Jack Armstrong. Jack is one of the last protégés of the famous pop artist Andy Warhol. It was Warhol who coined Jack the “Last Wizard” and he is fast becoming an important and increasingly well respected name in the world of true art. In an in-depth conversation, Jack discusses the many problems with the blue chip based aspect of the mainstream art gallery scene of today. That question is being raised in regards to much of what is being referred to as art on the mainstream gallery scene today. Works that go for millions of dollars are referred to as fine art but in actuality are blue chip investments. A handful of experts that are among the top one percent in wealth determine the values that these investments will go for.
Notice that much of the time throughout this article, these art pieces will be referred to as investments. It is a vastly common belief among many that these are not true art pieces, they are investments. Jack will further elaborate on the issues that he feels the general public isn’t largely aware of with the art world and why these art pieces are not true art but are only investments.
Jack Armstrong made a commitment to paint only 100 paintings in his lifetime. After meeting Andy Warhol in the late 1970’s, he decided to destroy all of his old work prior to that point.
“There is something mysterious about the number 100, everyone wants to live to be 100,” Jack said. “Only 100 people on this planet will own an original painting by Jack Armstrong. Warhol told me he thought it was a brilliant idea and that after he was gone I’d be the last wizard.”
Jack has become one of the most important painters in the modern day. He has single-handedly reinvented in the minds of everyone what the true definition of cosmic art is. Jack Armstrong is to cosmic art what Andy Warhol is to pop art. Jack is the first artist to sell a painting for more than a million dollars off the mainstream gallery scene, a scene of which Jack detests for its approach to art. One of his most unique contributions to the art is often called as his “Campbell’s soup can.”
