The Fourth Dimension Of Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan burst into tears after prison wardens ripped out her hair extensions and forced her to remove her false eyelashes when the star began her jail sentence in Los Angeles, the Daily Mirror reported Thursday, thus described Fox.

I never thought I would write on Lindsay Lohan, but here it is. My wife calls me ignorant because I do not even know the household names of the Hollywood stars, or their exploits. However,  I knew the name Lindsay Lohan, perhaps simply because her name is ubiquitous on the internet, for good or bad!

Her stories never interested me until she went to jail and her travails were described in detail all over the media. This report cites a prison guard, who said: “She was a broken woman. But she won’t get any sympathy here – this is jail.”

I am not in entire agreement with the sentiment of the guard, since it is evident that Lohan is not being treated like any other plain Miss Jane would be in similar circumstances. Moreover, there are so many facets to this story that I could not stop myself from dwelling in her miseries.

First, let me state plainly that it befuddles me why the media spends so much energy on “celebrities” versus, let’s say, the Nobel laureates. If you ask a hundred people to name the Americans who have been recently awarded Nobel prizes for their contribution to humanity, (Obama does not count, since he did not have to earn it) how many do you think will get it right?

I know the media moguls would say that they bring those stories to the forefront because it's what people have interest in. I nevertheless take the stand that media maketh the celebrity. And, I wonder why the elite people of this great country have an endless appetite for trivial matters involving celebrities. What is it about fame that attracts ordinary people? Is fame the most coveted among all other desires?

Then here is the girl, Lindsay, the obsession of millions worldwide, who has reached the pinnacle of the wonderland, and yet, is so clearly distressed! Why does she always bring these afflictions upon herself that, apparently, any ordinary person would have tried to avoid?

What, really, do we want? What is the innermost desire at the core of our hearts? Is it money, power, fame, or something else? What is that ever-elusive object that can take us to our own Shangri-Las, and make this very earth our own heavens?
