Carts of Darkness

I came across this rad documentary last evening via a local blog, kntgrl which was filmed on the north shore of our hilly city and relays a side of life we all see in our back alleys but don't really ever come up close to.

After 10 years in hiatus after an accident that paralyzed him, filmmaker, Murray Siple who used to make snowboarding films makes a comeback in this humbling and yet extreme sport-like documentary, Carts of Darkness. Siple follows a group of homeless men on their adventures collecting bottles, living on the edge and the extreme sport of shopping cart racing.

He parallels the need for speed to snowboarding and realized in filming that he had more in common with these guys than he realized.

A sweet way to spend an hour and the film is available online in it's entirety at the National Film Board's site.
