New Moon: Not Just for the Tween and Teen Set
New Moon blasted through the gate on its opening weekend with amazing force that raked in $140.7 million dollars. Despite largely being panned by critics including Roger Ebert, New Moon is undoubtedly quite the hit.
Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, return to form one exceptionally good looking love triangle. Director Chris Weitz pulled together a spellbinding followup to Twilight. Not necessarily an easy task when the love triangle involves one male vampire, one male werewolf and one very human female.
As the mother of a 12-year-old girl, it was never a question of whether or not we would see this movie. The same is probably true of most moms of tweens and teens. My own dirty little secret here is that while I sigh and put on the "oh the sacrifices I make for my beloved daughter" face, I was also excitedly awaiting the release. I may as well add insult to my own injury here and admit that immediately after reading my daughter's copy of Twilight, I ran and purchased her the entire book series. I read them all in my room at night before handing them over. OK, I may never win the mother of the year award, I will openly admit that. I was as entranced by the written saga as I am now by the movies.
So, to all of the naysayers and critics I say this; I will continue to sigh, manage my best put upon face and secretly, anxiously await the release of Eclipse due out June 30, 2010. I would wager a bet that I am not the only one, and the numbers from the opening weekend of New Moon pretty much assure I would win that bet!
