Online gamblingWith the world's economic climate being particularly fragile at the moment, there has been a rather welcome development in the world of online gambling in the United States.

The gaming industry has been saying for years that the US would benefit financially from legalizing online gambling - a belief that has been backed up by gaming experts and some of the world's best casinos.

Finally for the first time, an official government agency appears to have come out in support of legalizing gambling.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Joint Committee on Taxation has been running simulations based on how the economy might look if the UIGEA ban on online wagering was lifted. Working on the assumption that the state would charge a small fee for all deposits made by US citizens at online gambling organizations, the committee estimated that tax revenues generated over a ten-year period would be approximately $41.8 billion.

A movement to overturn the UIGEA is already being spearheaded by Congressman Barney Franks who has submitted an anti-UIGEA bill to Congress. The bill has already received sixty sponsors, but there is unfortunately still no set date as to when the bill will come up for hearing.

However, there is hope this new research could bring the anit-UIGEA bill to Congress a lot sooner than hoped given the fact that a government organization has officially recognized the extent to which the US economy could benefit from legalizing and taxing online gambling in the United States.

Only time will tell for sure, but this latest development can only be seen as good news for those who are looking to start wagering online again.
