Well, to corroborate the above mentioned method of dealing with critics, the Time article has a chilling anecdote about none other than COS leader, David Miscavige:

"Obsessed with security, Church boss David Miscavige reportedly likes to shoot photos of perceived enemies with a .45 automatic."

The most encouraging aspect to all of this attention being paid by blogs, private citizens and organizations who've dedicated their lives to helping expose the truth and help those who've managed to leave COS, is now, the information is out there. Even rank and file members can find out what the leaders of their organization are doing to suppress their right to free speech, information and the freedom to make their own choices about what they believe in.

That's the difference between and religion and a cult. Cults seek to alienate you from your family, the world and deprive you of a normal life full of all sorts of experiences. Whereas any decent religion or faith, should merely provide you with foundations to pursue your own interests with the hope of guiding you in a spiritually moral path. But ultimately, you can walk away from any decent religion with no strings attached, your sanity in tact and hopefully your life savings accounted for.

Sadly, Scientology can NOT make that claim. I encourage you to read the Time article, especially for those of you who doubt anything you read which doesn't come from a well-known source.

Update:
Time magazine spent 7 million dollars to fend off a baseless suit brought from the Church of Scientology after publishing the investigative article on COS. In what has to be the greatest display of irony, COS's leader at the time, Reverend Hebber Jentzsch made this statement after the courts dismissed the COS suit against Time.

"Here you have a multi-billion dollar colossus called Time- Warner and they use their billions of dollars to come after a small religious minority," Jentzsch said. "It was sort of like, well, I guess it's David and Goliath."

Yes, well COS knows a lot about a multi-billion dollar colossus going after a small minority. Just ask any ex-member what that experience is like.
