Fox News' John Gibson Apologizes For Being An Insensitive A**
Forgive me for not giving a crap about this nutjob's "apology." Apologies only count when you decide to do it on your own because you realize you have hurt or offended someone, not because you've been forced in to it, due to overwhelming pressure from higher-ups.
Not only did this hateful buttplug cheapen Heath Ledger's death, an absolutely crass, cruel and pointless thing to do, but he's been making fun of gay people for some time now. Haven't we had enough of this right-wing based agenda of hate?
Here's the original clip where John mocks Heath's death, and makes fun of his one-time role playing a gay/bi-sexual cowboy in the critically acclaimed film "Brokeback Mountain."
As an aside, I find it really immature and pathetic both Jake Gyllenhaal (Heath's co-star in "Brokeback Mountain") and Heath Ledger have/had been plagued with rumors of their being gay off screen as well. Neither actor, both of whom I think seem/ed like super-nice guys, have never given any indication other than having male friends (gee when the hell did that become a crime?) that they are gay. And more importantly, who the hell cares if they are? Isn't it ironic gay celeb bloggers (and you know who they are) get themselves all in a twitter in their attempts to out people, while simultaneously demanding privacy and rights for those who are gay and outside of the public eye. There really is a difference between a person like Heath Ledger, or Jake Gyllenhaal, and someone like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
Yes they are all celebrities, but unlike Paris or Britney (insert celebutard of your choice), Heath and Jake (insert any self-respecting famous person) they conduct themselves with a sense of dignity and self-control. This is why you don't see Glosslip (and I am not bragging, well, maybe I am) constantly updating on the daily goings on of every celeb in Hollywood. There are plenty of sites where you can find that sort of thing, but k and I adhere to a separate set of journalistic principles. I genuinely believe we are attempting to point out not all actions and behaviors of those in Hollywood should be glorified. Much of what some of these people do underscore the dangers and pitfalls of fame and excess. Glosslip attempts to serve as a cautionary warning to the young, arrogant and immature - life has consequences. Maybe someday, the Paris', Britney's, Lindsay's and Jamie Lynn's of the world will figure this out.
