It's A Wonderful Life - Page 6

Today, after some 50 years, I've heard the film called "an American cultural phenomenon." Well, maybe so, but it seems to me there is nothing phenomenal about the movie itself. It's simply about an ordinary man who discovers that living each ordinary day honorably, with faith in God and a selfless concern for others, can make for a truly wonderful life.
I've always loved this movie, but I sat there with tears in my eyes last night as if seeing it for the first time.  Maybe it took some aging and ripening on my part, but it seemed like its message reached me anew.  I remembered what Jimmy Stewart had written many years ago, I thought of the situation of myself and of so many others in this country, I remembered the lessons I've learned as I've become an adult, and it truly sunk in.

I don't know who you voted for in the last election, and I don't care.  Maybe your candidate for President or Congress or Mayor or city council made it and maybe they didn't.  I don't know your political or social or religious leanings.  I don't know if you're in the upper echelon of wealth or if you've barely got two pennies to rub together.  But we've all got to stick together in this, because everything we do touches so many others, like ripples in a pond.  Times are so hard for so many, and things don't always work out the way we think they ought, but we truly are blessed in so many ways.
