Out Magazine To Gays: Come Out, Come Out Wherever You Are, Or Else
I love how gays can't leave other gays alone.
Out Magazine's lastest issue published a bold list of high profile gays titled "The Power 50, The Most Powerful Gay Men and Women In America." Some are openly gay, like comedian Ellen Degeneres, financial expert Suze Orman (who only recently came out as gay) and Congressman Barney Frank, and of course, the ultra-sexy gossip gangsta Perez Hilton (Mario Laviendera) who is ranked at No. 17. Awesome!
That's all well and good, because well, those people have stated they are gay, and as such, clearly don't mind being considered gay. But what I find truly WRONG — on so many levels — is that they put two people on the cover who haven't come out as being gay, actress Jodie Foster and CNN anchor Anderson Cooper with the caption "The Class Closet, Why Stars Won't Come Out And Play."
Look, I am not arguing that these two individuals lead alternative lifestyles from that of their peers. In fact, I happen to believe that Anderson Cooper and Jodie Foster may very well be...wait for it....allowed to leave their personal lives, well personal. What right and proof does Out magazine have to designate these two individuals as gay? What if they aren't? What if they are celibate, bi-sexual, or asexual? Or what if they just don't know how they feel, or like Angelina Jolie, believe that they could fall in love with a person regardless of their gender?
I just don't give a crap whether people are gay, and by gay, I mean choose to have a close, intimate relationship with someone of the same gender. That's cool with me. What I REALLY can't stand is when people feel the need to flaunt their sexuality, whatever it is, in my face. That means flaming gay behavior is as lame to me, as whoreish, slutty hetero-behavior. Please don't act like a queerball, please don't act like a slutbag. What you do behind closed doors as consenting adults is none of my business and doesn't bother me in the least. All I ask is that you not foist that unwelcomed knowledge of your sexuality in my face. It's kind of annoying and offensive.
