Rihanna Named As Alleged Victim In Chris Brown Attack
Rihanna and Brown during happier times.
This story is NOT turning out to be a cheery misunderstanding between two young lovers but perhaps the worse part about this whole "Chris Brown beating up Rihanna" incident is Chris Brown's own past history with domestic violence.
Brown, a popular R&B singer who was scheduled to perform and was up for two Grammys at last night's award ceremony, has cited the abuse his mother faced when he was a boy as a traumatic event in his formative years. The Washington Post highlights this glaring obvious point:
If true, one of the saddest parts of this story is Brown's own very recent history as a witness of domestic violence in his childhood home. In 2007 Brown acknowledged his own troubled past:"I don't want to mention the person's name - it wasn't my real father - but somebody hurt my mom and me, I had to deal with that from seven all the way to 13. It affected me, especially (my behavior) towards women — I treat them differently. I don't want to put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through. I was scared and timid when I was little. I used to pee in my bed... I think it was me being nervous, and scared to get up (out of bed) and see what was going on. My mom used to try and hide it from me and my sister, but we knew. Anybody that's going through it, just try to deal with it, talk it out."
At this point, we don't know exactly what led to the argument and subsequent physical altercation, but it really doesn't matter. The bottom line is one person injured another and it sounds like Chris knew far too well that violence is NOT the answer to anyone's problem.
Also surfacing in this story are reports that Chris was charged with "assault with a deadly weapon", although TMZ (who has a track record of accuracy in this sort of thing) is stating NO weapon was involved, but that sources are stating Rihanna/unnamed victim, suffered contusions and bite marks.
That's just weird, and gross.
This is sad all the way around. Brown, 19 and Rihanna 20, are far too young for this kind of pattern to emerge, but plenty old enough to know better.
