Update: Lambert has tweeted that he was talking about the EMA awards and was taken out of context; however, he has still not categorically denied a possible upcoming role fronting Queen. Stay tuned!

Like his voice or not, you have to agree that singer Adam Lambert has got one Hell of a set of pipes on him. He's also got one Hell of a pair of shoes to fill.

In an interview with the Daily Star, the winner of American Idol has spilled the beans on his latest venture - fronting one of the biggest rock bands in history.

Two of Queen's original band members, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, have played with Lambert previously, when they showed up together on stage at MTV's EMAs last year in Belfast. Both May and Taylor, twice Lambert's age, have given the 30-year-old singer the thumbs up. "He has grown into a really great performer," said Taylor in a Billboard interview. "There's nothing signed just yet, but we're talking about live dates."

Lambert says he's sensitive to Queen fans not wanting Freddie Mercury's legacy replaced. "There's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie," said Lambert. "That's impossible."

To put the record straight, Lambert wouldn't be the first lead singer to fill Mercury's shoes. In 2005, Paul Rodgers joined the band for five years, going on tour and even singing for an album.

It'll be interesting to watch Lambert's largely younger female fan base make the move to enjoying Queen's legendary hits being worked over by their favorite metrosexual crooner.

Coincidentally, Lambert sang Queen mega-hit Bohemian Rhapsody when he auditioned in Season 8. Watch, listen, and decide for yourself...

As Queen drummer Taylor put it, "It could be very exciting."
