Diane Sawyer Bids Adieu to Good Morning America

DIane Sawyer has made an incredible journey from beauty queen, to host of GMA, and now to an anchor chair on World News. After 11 years on ABC's GMA she will trade in her seat to replace Charles Gibson, who is stepping down on ABC's evening news program.
During her tenure on GMA she has done approximately 3,000 shows, including covering 9/11 from ground zero. GMA is by far the most profitable news division for ABC. It is estimated that it brings in around $50 million dollars a year. Part of GMA's allure has always been it's mix of entertainment and news.
David Weston, ABC News president, has announced that GMA would be moving toward a more substantive news format. Making headway in that direction, came the announcement that George Stephanopoulos will succeed Diane Sawyer on the show. There are already murmurs of discontent surfacing from the viewer realm with most viewers tuning into GMA for news and entertainment. It will be interesting to see how this new direction will affect GMA's ratings and subsequent endorsements.
