The 9th season of NBC's the Biggest Loser will begin on January 5, 2010.This season is notable for having the largest contestant in the show's history. The holder of this weighty title is Michael Ventrella, a 31 year old DJ from Chicago. Mr. Ventrella weighs in at a solid 526 pounds. He has the distinction of being the first Biggest Loser contestant over 500 pounds.

The winner of season 8 was Danny Cahill, who also set a record for the most weight lost. Mr. Cahill started the show at 430 lbs. and lost a grand total of 239 lbs.. That is an amazing feat. The finale of season 8 drew approximately 13.4 million viewers, the shows highest ratings since 2005. It would seem that America's obsession with obesity will keep this show alive and well for some time to come.

Season 9's trainers have their work cut out for them. Mr Ventrella, like Mr. Cahill, has been given a golden ticket. He has the opportunity of a lifetime to improve his health, to improve his quality of life, not to mention all of the other perks that go along with a large weight loss. Use your golden ticket well Mr. Ventrella. Many people would give anything to be in your shoes.
