Oprah's Farewell Tour To Last 24 Months
Oprah Winfrey announced on Friday that she will be ending her show on September 9, 2011. She will continue for the next 18 months and will have culminated her 25th season on the air. I became teary right along with her as she announced this to her audience. I have to concur though, that after a quarter of a century, she is probably correct and it is time for closure.
Oprah broke so many barriers: race, gender, and even class. I can walk the timeline of her show right along with the timeline of my own life. From the '80s until now, hair and makeup, styles, jewelry, weight loss, weight gain and all of the timely issues she has covered throughout those years. It is the end of an era. We have said goodbye to some of the great talk show hosts, Phil Donahue and Johnny Carson to name a few, and now Oprah.
There has been talk of an Oprah Network and perhaps a chance of a new show to come. This remains to be seen. I, and so many others will bid her a very fond and sad farewell.
