Beauty In The Eyes Of Ralph Lauren Turns Ugly!
No wonder young pre-teens and teens are anorexic or bulimic, and then suicidal these days....no one can live up to the false images that are portrayed by the fashion industry! It's time to put a stop to all this nonsense that skeletal is beautiful!!!
The latest example of the fashion industry gone mad is the firing of Filippa Hamilton, a young 23 year-old model who measures 5'10" and weighs 120 pounds. If you don't know who I'm talking about, she was the face of Ralph Lauren's fragrance, Romance. According to Filippa, she was fired for being too fat, but that didn't stop Ralph Lauren from using her face on a photoshopped skinny body in their ad campaign. "I was shocked to see that super skinny girl with my face," Filippa was quoted as saying.
As far as I'm concerned, Ralph Lauren has gone stark raving mad if he thinks the photo in their ad is beautiful! It looks down right scary if you ask me. A big head on a skinny body with two sticks for legs cannot possibly be appealing. Whoever worked on the photo, chiseling away inch by inch what a real woman looks like and ending with a scarecrow reminds me of a mad scientist in a laboratory going beserk.
So what does Ralph Lauren say about all this? First he decided to sue the website BoingBoing.net for showing the photo in the first place, and then when word got out and there was public outrage, only then did the company release a statement saying:
"For over 42 years we have built a brand based on quality and integrity. After further investigation, we have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman's body. We have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the caliber of our artwork represents our brand appropriately."
Maya Muses: Well, we'll just have to see about that Mr. Lauren whether you'll start using models that actually look like people or after the dust settles, you'll continue to manipulate photos and make your models into human coat hangers for the sake of making your clothes look better.
I have a better idea! Why not make clothes that look good on all people, all sizes, and then there won't be a need for coat hanger models, or am I just dreaming?!
