Blog Focus: Sesame Street Turns 40
Blog Focus is Technorati's daily roundup of the top stories as told by the bloggers of the world. Each day five posts, no matter how popular or nascent, will be selected by editors to portray a general unscientific reaction to discussion points around the 'Net.
Big Bird and the gang celebrated 40 years on the air yesterday and bloggers had a lot to say about it. Favorite memories, conspiracy theories and using Oscar the Grouch as a babysitter for your tots were some of the stories circulating through the web. Check out what they were saying:
Gawker: "Big Bird gave money to hookers through ACORN. Oscar the Grouch had an abortion. These fucking puppets hate America, say conservatives. You know who doesn't hate America? Sarah Palin. And she has a conspiracy theory of her own to add."
Christian Science Monitor: "The timeless children’s program celebrated its 40th anniversary Wednesday to much celebration. Even Google commemorated the big day by changing its logo on their home page. But not everyone’s happy with the PBS offering. One high profile website featured a blog questioning the political leanings of everyone’s favorite trash-loving muppet. Or perhaps, more accurately, the writers behind Oscar the Grouch and all the gang at Sesame Street."
MediaPost: "If you haven't figured it out, while you all were dialing into conference calls, sweating over that RFP, and pitching to some venture capitalists, I spent my morning with some of the original cast of "Sesame Street," celebrating the show's 40th anniversary by naming 64th and Columbus "123 Sesame Street.""
Wifely Steps: "Sesame Street was a huge part of my childhood, and I’m sure it was a huge part of yours too. Who could forget “A loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter” or “Who are the people in your neighborhood?” My Mom said she’d plop me in front of the television when Sesame Street was on and I’d be good for the next hour or so."
Jezebel: "Those who feel the Obamas are indoctrinating our children will not be happy with Sesame Street's 40th anniversary guest: the First Lady. This comes shortly after the veteran kids' show made waves for trashing Fox News."
