54 Years Later, Tracking Santa Has Never Been Easier
For kids all around the world, tracking Santa has never been easier.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has yet again, provided young tots with the ability to track Saint Nick's every sleigh move by virtue of a dedicated website.
With the help of Google Earth, this brilliant site gives Santa-watchers the chance to track Santa and his crew of Reindeer's as they deliver presents all around the world.
The site showcases a countdown timer to let children know when Santa is due to take off on his journey. There is a page that displays Santa's village in animated form and it also provides the latest updates of events happening direct from the North Pole. If you have young ones keenly awaiting his arrival, this is definitely something that will excite their interest.
Special Santa-cams have been set up to help with following the jolly man around the world. From Christmas Eve we will be able to view "live" video footage of the man in red and NORAD volunteers will have their work cut out for them helping with regular updates to the website allowing us to know what Santa is up to with video footage included.
NORAD has been responsible for tracking Santa since 1955 when an advertisement noting the wrong phone number and gave the Defense Command 'hotline' number instead. At the time, Director of Operations Colonel Harry Shoup had his workers check their radars for sightings of the man in red and help keep the children in the loop. From that moment on, tracking Santa became a vital service that NORAD continued, which helps children track Old Saint Nick and confirm whether or not they are on the good list or naughty list. If you need the technical confirmation, the NORAD site provides visitors with insights as to how they are able to track the aeronautical events on their radar. Additionally, they get a little help from Rudolph's excessive red glow, helping pinpoint exact where Santa, Rudolph and the rest of the Reindeer are in the sky.
