World by Petr Griffin at publicdomainpictures.netRecent events in the world of hacking have left many scratching their head for all the political rhetoric of carbon taxes. That is a fight that the countries will duke out, and probably pass on to the people; however, it does not change the fact that technology exist to reduce the consumption of oils and fossil fuels. The statements from Shell acknowledges that technology exists to make communities, states, and countries self-sufficient.

The common knowledge exists that Shell is a major player for making oil profits. Shell has billions in negotiating leverage for making sure business continues as usual, which makes this release, acknowledgment of existing technology, astonishing. Shell recognizes that individuals (globally) have initiated steps to reduce energy consumption. Whether this is due to the economic downturn, or actual awareness of consumption, one can still speculate; however, Shell appears to have ambitions of venturing into using better technology.

Though the cost of going green can be expensive through the use of solar panels, water conservation measures, and other methods, individuals are saving money and setting new market standards. Through the wave of individuals using green technology within the last few years, Shell states the following observation “…individuals retro-fitting their own homes with efficiency upgrades and installation of low-carbon appliances, and the re-design of communities to allow more thrifty use of energy.” This brings a need for the market to change and reorganize efforts of the people. Is it possible that Shell is going to be the first of the major oil companies to bring (cheap) advance technology for all individuals? Time will tell, but this seems to be a step in the right direction.
