Proposed Legislation Aims to Create Vanity Harley License Plates
If all goes well on the political front, Harley-Davidson lovers in the state of Wisconsin might have something special to put on their other road hogs, i.e. cars - a special license plate commemorating the iconic Milwaukee heavyweight motorcycle manufacturer.
The proposed legislation, which was drummed up by state Sen. Jim Sullivan (D-Wauwatosa) and state Rep. Amy Sue Vruwink (D-Milladore), would create an automobile license plate for registered Wisconsin cars and trucks. The plate would include Harley-Davidson’s trademark bar and shield logo and the message “Share the Road.”
The state's Business Journal reported that the revenue collected from the special plate would go to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and would be used for conducting public workshops on motorcycle safety; evaluating basic rider education courses; creating transportation messages at motorcycle rallies; providing funds for motorcycle-related safety and training programs; and grants to providers of motorcycle safety training courses.
The goal is to have the plate ready by May 2010, which is motorcycle safety month. Additionally, there is talk about declaring Harley-Davidson the state’s official motorcycle, though those discussions seem to be fading fast, or should I said, riding off into the sunset.
