Are You Buying The Rahmination Proclamation?
Nothing screams "spin job" quite like an A1 above-the-fold profile story. White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel has become somewhat of a persona non grata in the liberal blogosphere due to some of his shrewd tactics and his world famous temper. But Jason Horowitz's story in the Washington Post on him is causing even more eyes to roll, perhaps before heads do.
But, he's the voice of reason, you see. If more people listened to his ideas, we'd all be better off!
"This p.r. offensive is offensive," writes AMERICAblog's Jue Sudbay. Horowitz's WaPo colleague Ezra Klein isn't so sure Emanuel (someone who has Klein's approval) should really be making so many decisions. Matthew Yglesias sees a prime example of journalizing a story out of the ether, and No More Mister Nice Blog sees the article as the template for Rahm's upcoming book for whenever he gets fired and becomes even more popular in the Beltway.
The Washington Post article is rather fascinating if you love staring at the inner mechanisms of the political machine until your face becomes a liquid pool of democracy.
