Azeri Tween Practically Has His Own Island

What was your allowance when you were 11? Mine was enough to buy Dragon Warrior III for the Nintendo Entertainment System after several months of devout saving (and accrual of funds pertaining to lost baby teeth). The son of Azerbaijan's president raked the lawn enough times (or at least told the gardener to) to buy nine mansions last year.

In Dubai.

On an island.

[head explodes, mostly with jealousy]

The Washington Post got their hands on official Land Department records in the United Arab Emirates and made the logical conclusion that someone with the same name as Ilham Aliyev's 12-year-old son bought a nonet of dwellings on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, an island artificially sculpted to look royally awesome.

The nine gargantuan homes come to $44 million total, which appears to be well within the Aliyev family bank account, since their richer-than-oil-laden-land president governs one of the most corrupt nations in the world.

Right now thousands of 12-year-olds are trying to figure out what they'd do with nine huge mansions. It would probably involve sleepovers, forts, and other mischievous antics that are harmless and pure compared to what thousands of 17-year-old boys would like to do in their own house without adult supervision.
