Denver Police Brutalize Occupy Denver
The Denver Police Department along with the Colorado State Patrol unleashed it’s mighty wrath upon peaceful protesters of Occupydenver resulting in multiple arrests and injuries late Saturday afternoon, October 29th, 2011. While the Mile High City sports state of the art riot equipment purchased for the Democratic National Convention it hosted, the police and state patrol clearly lack the wisdom about how to effectively manage unhappy protesters.
Things started innocently when Occupydenver and other groups marched through the city. Denver Police rode shot-gun for the march, insuring key intersections remained safe and the protesters were kept apart from opposition. After stopping at the state court, the federal court and marching past Wells Fargo and other banks Occupy claims have ravaged the community, the march ended at the state capitol. From there, the group splintered, a portion who advocate for marijuana reform remained at the capitol, since they had a permit to assemble, with the bulk of the occupy marchers returning to the park South of the capitol grounds.
According to witnesses, including Jeannie Hartley, an Occupydenver organizer, the protesters were standing with their signs along Broadway Boulevard in the downtown district. A few of the protesters had started to set up tarps in one of the parks south of the Capitol. The Police had entered the park to tear down the tarp, a favorite method of antagonizing the protesters, many of whom are homeless. It was tantamount to yelling fire in a crowded theater.
