Hickenlooper Poz After Giddy Up Trip For Colorado Gov
John Hickenlooper
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper hangs onto a narrow lead over Tom Tancredo in his quest to be the next Colorado governor. The Democratic Giddy Up ‘N Vote Tour on a Prevost bus draws to a close.
A smiling John Hickenlooper, accompanied by past Denver Mayor Federico Peña, who was is the past Secretary of Energy, Senators Michael Bennet and Ed Pearlmutter and others stepped from the Prevost buses they had been traveling on for the past several days.
The cries went up when the candidates walked into a room stacked with standing room-only supporters in the El Padrino Restaurant at 4747 North Federal Boulevard in Denver, CO. The tour was a big success, and everyone knew it. Sadly, it was also while on the tour that Mayor Hickenlooper learned his cousin, filmmaker George Hickenlooper, had passed in his sleep.
Garcia and Hickenlooper
Hickenlooper has insisted on running a clean and positive campaign. No attack ads. The opposition has not returned the favor, crucifying Hickenlooper fiercely. The Mayor explained his thinking during the debate with the candidates, Republican Dan Maes, and American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo, Friday night.
"At the end of the election, no matter who wins, we all have to come together to build a better Colorado," Hickenlooper explained. "I won’t attack my opponent because it not only marginalizes my opponent; it marginalizes his supporters," he said.
Standing next to Hickenlooper was his running mate, Joe Garcia, a lithe man who speaks as if he has been on the campaign beat for years, though this is new to him. When he speaks from the heart, it is usually in Spanish. Garcia speaks about the need for all children to go to school, and opportunity for qualified Latinos to find their place in government, alongside Hickenlooper.
