Jim Bunning Is Getting Shelled Out There
Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Bunning once threw a perfect game in the major leagues. His worst outing was probably tonight, when he flipped off a camera and scolded ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl in the Hart Senate building.
Trying to steer clear of the press, Bunning turned a corner and got into an elevator, but his stuff isn't what it used to be, because Karl stayed on his trail. When the reporter stepped in to ask a question about the Republican senator filibustering against extending unemployment benefits, his only response was "Excuse me! This is a Senators only elevator!" Despite repeated attempts to get an answer from the Kentuckian, the only result was a viral video for ABC News. Hey, that's a pretty good day at the plate.
Bunning's middle finger was unfortunately not caught on film (curse that red button). And this incident comes a week after telling another senator who was trying to get him to cease the filibuster "tough shit" on the Senate floor. Indeed, the wheels are coming off in his final inning.
As BlueOregon's Paul Gronke ponders, maybe the Senate can paint Bunning as a pariah and use it to improve proceedings in Congress. But for now, perhaps the GOP might want to start warming up some candidates in the bullpen. You can only leave a guy in there so long before he starts hurting the team.
