We Can All Agree That American Flag Pants Are Simply Tacky

And maybe that's all we can agree on for now.

The uproar over some high school kids in California being sent home for wearing American flag-adorned clothing on Cinco de Mayo has reached DEFCON 3 in the blogosphere. It's as if many have finally sought after that fish-laden barrel in this hotly-debated Arizona immigration law and have begun firing repeatedly into it. After all, this is America. Not Mexico. These colors, when put in the proper wash cycle with similar-hued clothes, don't run.

(Besides, 5/5 should be celebrated in USA by getting plastered on Dos Equis and reciting that broken Spanish we remember from eighth grade, which is MUCH more respectful of Mexican heritage.)

It's the biggest no-brainer in history. Of course it's tacky and perhaps a little pompous to wear red, white, and blue trousers on any day of the week. But pomp and circus pants aren't habits that schools can really enforce. Unless these kids were in violation of their standard dress code, it was a dumb decision by the school if that's really the reason they were sent home.

But still, I thought the whole point of illegal immigration is that they're doing jobs we wouldn't. Such as picking low-hanging fruit off the tree of civil dialogue.
