We Do Not Deserve You Russ, Not Yet
Today, my heart is heavy, as I am writing on the defeat of US Senator Russ Feingold. Borrowing one of his fan’s words, I say: “The old rules of politics no longer apply. You can win every debate, as Feingold did. You can get practically every newspaper endorsement in the state, as Feingold did, including some very conservative ones. You can be a loyal and dutiful servant of your constituents, coming home every weekend and visiting every county every year, as Feingold did. And you can still lose.”
Today, America is a sore loser because of the collective stupidity of the people of Wisconsin. If you want to know how ignorant Americans are, look no further than Wisconsin. With their bovine wisdom they chose a plastic millionaire over one of the finest politicians this country has ever produced. Thank you, Wisconsin, you are showing us the way, how big time spending would make differences in coming elections.
No honest politician, who is a true servant of the ordinary people is safe any more. Alan Grayson suffered the same fate as Russ, and next it would be the turn of another honest and dedicated leader. Only the other day, I wrote, We Deserve Leaders As We Are, and now this election vindicates me.
Feingold was the sole senator to oppose the USA Patriot Act after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. He opposed Obama in his expansion of the war in Afghanistan, bailing out financial institutions in 2008, and the regulation of Wall Street this year (for failure of the law to go far enough to make real reforms), demonstrating his courage to stand against corporate America. No other Senator had the guts to defy the military industrial complex of the most powerful nation like he did; therefore, they had to take him down, and that they did by outspending him 1 to 5, thanks to the Supreme judicial activists.
