Google Maps Adds Directions for Bike Routes
With customized Google Maps directions for driving, walking, and public transportation, cycling couldn't be far behind, right? Well, it's finally here! Google has announced the addition of "more than 12,000 miles of trails" to their mapping data.
The trails—which are now marked directly on the map in addition to being available as biking directions—are even differentiated between bike-only trails (dark green), bike lanes along the road (light green), and "roads that are designated as preferred for bicycling, but without dedicated lanes" (dashed green).

This makes it a whole lot easier to find the best way to bike around your city or town. Some cities (like Boston, where I live) have great bike lanes and routes, but you might have no idea how to best access them. With these biking directions—especially with the designation of preferred routes—it'll be much easier to find the safest (and greenest) way from point A to point B.
