Blog Focus: Charles Barkley to Host Saturday Night Live
Saying Charles Barkley was one of the best athletes to ever host Saturday Night Live is not much of a compliment. Other than Peyton Manning, who was pretty good, Barkley's competition comes from the likes of Michael Phelps and Michael Jordan, among others, who were terrible.
Barkley hosted the show in 1993 and will have his second go Jan. 9, albeit with a less talented cast to work with. Here's how the blogosphere reacted:
Sports Media Watch: "The hosting gig will take place during a two-week hiatus for the NBA on TNT. In recent years, Barkley has been frequently imitated on SNL by castmember Kenan Thompson."
SLAM: "I know there's been no reason to watch the show in ages, but this might be worth checking out."
Brahsome: "So, yeah, that’s the news. It’ll likely be funny as balls. Instead of discussing whether Chuck can make a shitty show that I keep watching actually funny for an hour and a half, let’s take a look at the way-back machine with his first host appearance in 1993."
Inside TV: "Barkley played in the NBA from 1984 to 2000 with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets. He currently offers commentary on the TNT's 'Inside the NBA,' in addition to the network's pre-game show, 'The NBA on TNT.'"
