LeBron JamesIt seems silly to have to mention it, but the joking idea that LeBron James, because of his size and speed, could actually be a NFL player, is for some reason being discussed as if it has some plausibility.

He's the best basketball player in the NBA, the reigning MVP, about to score another huge contract as a free agent ... not only would he never truly consider playing in the NFL, he has no reason to.

But that doesn't stop the blogosphere and media, who have been debating whether he could or couldn't be a NFL player for the last few days.

National Football Post: "Still, it wouldn’t take much to help the Browns, would it? Plus, the hardwood has turned out a couple of pretty dynamic tight ends in Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates."

Nice Kicks: "Last night LeBron James, an all-state wide reciever in high school, stated that with time and dedication, he could be a great football player. “If I put all my time and commitment into it, if I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good,” he said Tuesday night, “no matter what team I was on.”

Projo Sports Blog: "Cleveland nose tackle Shaun Rogers initially sacked James' belief. Now Shockey has piled on. On his Twitter page, Shockey wrote: "Everyone trust me Lebron James could not play in the NFL! espn is crazy to even think he could even make a practice squad. hes a 4.9 40 time.""

Big League Screw: "After assessing the comments, we’re going to have to chalk this one up to bitterness. Could LeBron James hack it in the NFL? Probably. Would he be better than Jeremy Shockey? That’s up in the air. But I think LeBron made the right decision considering the fact that he’s about to sign a mega-contract and is the frontman for brands like Nike and Sprite."
