Byron ScottA 3-6 start to the season and a frustrated star point guard may have contributed to Byron Scott being fired as coach of the New Orleans Hornets, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Scott, who was NBA Coach of the Year just two seasons ago, has overseen a team that seems to be regressing. After making the second round of the playoffs and nearly upsetting the Spurs two years ago, the team lost a very uncompetitive series against Denver in the first round last year. This year, the team has struggled with new addition Emeka Okafor and star Chris Paul has been visibly frustrated at times.

The Hornets are also locked into an expensive roster with big money tied up in players like Okafor, Peja Stojakovic, James Posey and Morris Peterson, making it difficult for the team to improve through trades.

Scott is the first coach to be fired this season.
