Drunk Curling Fan Ejected From Nationals
Yes, I'll be writing up more exclusive material from USA Curling Nationals in Kalamazoo, but I wouldn't wait to share this story.
According to the newsletter-type publication circulating around the arena, we may have had a first in American curling spectator history. On Saturday during the 11th end of the first draw, a fan (described as "over-pickled") jumped the wall and sat in a vacant official's chair to get a better view of the game. One of the eagle-eyed Kalamazoo Curling Club members shooed him off the ice and "cornered him until security arrived moments later."
At least he didn't pull a William Ligue.
The quote of the century came from the head of security, who told the fan as he was being escorted out: "Dude, you got to take a personal inventory — you're getting thrown out of a curling match."
Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo seats over 5,000 fans but there are probably a couple hundred in the stands today during the round robin game. What I'm trying to say is: there already are great seats everywhere. Heck, you can sit in the first row and practically high five the competitors. But ... please don't do that on your own, or you might be the second fan in history to reassess their life.
