Horse Placentas Heal Soccer Players
Horse placentas and soccer players; do they have anything in common? Not until someone kicks you on the shin, twists your knee, or stamps on your ankle, then all roads lead to Dr. Marijana Kovacevic in Belgrade, Serbia.
Speak to the growing number of Premier League and other league soccer players visiting her, Robin van Persie of Arsenal fame, Liverpool’s Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun, and they’ll tell you that the old concoctions are out, and horse placenta is in.
Now there seems to be some mystery around how the good doctor applies the elixir. Some say it’s massaged in to the injured area, others say it’s injected, while others go so far as to describe it as being taken orally. The last two don’t sound very appealing, especially the oral bit, but it seems the massage is the one.
Our ignorance may make it all sound just a little macabre, but let’s be reminded that many women are treated with female hormones harvested from the urine of pregnant mares - hormone replacement therapy. Imagine the faces of those rough and tough fans, who still persist in believing that soccer is a MAN’S game, when they find out that their manly heroes are having a bit of femininity rubbed in to them – wow.
Gaining some insight into human reproduction also makes the whole issue believable. The placenta is a rich source of vitamins, nutrients, minerals, iron and protein which feeds and permits the provision of oxygen to the fetus, while releasing carbon dioxide and waste products from the fetus to the mother. With that kind of resume what do you expect? Stirrings in the world of soccer are therefore certainly not surprising.
But, then come the mystical gurus - something far beyond physiology and biology here. That which holds, protects and nurtures birth, and is then ultimately discarded, seeks to reunite with its source to once again fulfil its nurturing and healing destiny. Nice thought and some meditation. I wonder what that makes Dr Kovacevic? Some kind of much sort after shaman by the world of soccer, and depending on the extent of her power, the wider world of sport. Who knows?
By the way, the word “placenta” in Latin means cake - a dish from ancient Rome consisting of sheets of flour dough topped with cheese and honey and flavoured with bay leaves. Work that one out!
