MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to Step Down in 2012
After starting on an interim basis, taking over for Fay Vincent in 1992 and serving as acting commissioner for six years before being named official commissioner in 1998, Bud Selig has overseen a lot in his tenure as MLB commish.
Apparently, though, that tenure will come to an end in 2012 as Selig hopes to focus on other aspects of his life at that time.
Since becoming commissioner, Selig has helped baseball get through a strike and canceled World Series, has seen the game's longest standing records broke and then marred by performance-enhancing drug accusations, has seen the game tainted seemingly beyond repair and then rebound and grow in popularity on two occasions and made possibly the most unpopular decision in All-Star Game history.
With so many ups and downs, Selig's impact on the game will not be truly evaluated until long after he's moved on. The next important question: who will succeed him? George W. Bush?
