On A Moment Of Mega-stupidity, Bangladesh Skipper Threw It All
On a day the tigers were destined to redeem themselves against a top cricketing nation, their skipper Mushfiqur Rahim threw it all away in a selfish action that should haunt him for a long time to come! Mushfiq need to understand that Shakib is an immensely superior batsman compared to him, and if there is ever any moment when a wicket has to be sacrificed between them, it must be his. No one in Bangladesh team has earned the credential to hold a candle to Shakib Al Hasan, the number one cricketing all rounder for years now. And to sacrifice his wicket when he is playing like a wall, at 144, must be considered a criminal offence.
Mushfiqur Rahim played Umar Gul off his hips to the midwicket area that was not covered by any filder and an easy single was on the card. The captain called, took a few steps forward, and then called late for Shakib to turn back, Taufeeq Umar managed to collect the ball and break the stumps on the bowler's end with a direct hit. Shakib walked off, after several glares at his captain over the poor calling. A great innings built with solid determination and hard work came to an end. And on the very next delivery, Mushfiq lazily gloved a catch down the leg side to the wicketkeeper ending the first determined fight by the home team on the 2nd day at Mirpur.
The 2nd test match against Pakistan had started for Bangladesh in the familiar fashion in Dhaka the previous day. Nazmuddin, who displayed glimpses of solid technique and temperament at his debut, has now fallen into the groove of his predecessors, just one-time wonder hit boys, who appear with so much funfairs, only to fade away overnight! He was out lbw to Cheema without scoring, playing only six balls—Bangladesh was 1 for no run. Tamim Iqbal quickly followed Nazimuddin, trying to hit a Cheema bouncer, demonstrating once again the need for him to curb his temperament, to play at the international level. The selectors could do well giving him a break from international cricket. Ashraful has proven that once a player loses his thinking ability his career shall be over. It was 2 for 16 for the tigers.
