Rich Rodriguez Compares Football Adversity to Hurricanes
When dealing with a very public adultery revelation earlier this year, Rick Pitino semi-famously invoked a 9-11 reference when comparing the situations.
It was weird and awkward and out of place, but not particularly uncommon. Just check out Rich Rodriguez's latest, comparing the Michigan football team's adversity-filled season to the hurricanes that destroyed the Gulf Coast:
“It’s really kind of ironic that the New Orleans Saints overcame the hurricane a few years back,” Rodriguez said, referring to Hurricane Katrina, which damaged large sections of the Gulf Coast in 2005. “I used to live and coach in New Orleans for a couple years, and I know how devastated that city is and how they overcome and rebuild the stadium and rebuild the program. And we’ve had a few hurricanes of our own."
It goes on from there, but really ... just stop man. The "hurricane" he's talking about was the media reporting on alleged practice time violations, spurred on by anonymously sourced "current and former players."
Now, there were definitely fair questions to ask about that reporting, and several smart people asked those questions very publicly.
Rodriguez is an intelligent guy with a good sense of humor at times. But seriously, it is insane when coaches invoke real-life tragedies and loosely connect them to their own stupid decisions.
