King Al An Angel
Albert Pujols has been swooped up by the Anaheim Angels. Pujols and the Angels have agreed to a 10-year contract set between $250-$260 million.
The Angels first offered Pujols 10 years at $210 million, but many knew it would take more to get him out of St. Louis since his home and businesses are all in Missouri.
The Cardinals had offered nine years at just over $200 million with a no-trade clause. The Angels knew they had to match the intricacies of that deal, and up theirs, in order to land the slugger.
Albert had recently been offered 10 years from the Miami Marlins at around $220 million, but the package did not include a no-trade clause, which did not attract Pujols.
Pujols will now move his show to the west where he will more than likely break records as an Angel. Pujols could be the home run king by the time he retires.
For the Angels, this deal means they could attract other players. IF they get back a healthy Kendry Morales, mixed in with Torii Hunter's usual production, the Angels could have an interesting middle of the lineup.
Said to only have $15-20 million to spend this offseason, general manager Arte Moreno and the Angels surprised many. The team has a new tv deal that could bring in a yearly revenue of $150 million. If the team wins they could find themselves in the playoff picture with Albert Pujols, the best player in baseball, as their anchor.
