Taylor Mays, circa August of 2009, was considered the next big thing headed to the NFL from USC, largely because of moments like this:

Gradually, through a lackluster junior and senior season, pundits began to paint Mays as a highlight reel player, a guy who would go for the big play and give up a whole bunch of less flashy but equally harming plays.

After the combine Mays was believed to be just a workout freak, but his agent has cleared things up - by throwing Pate Carroll under the bus.

“Polamalu had one interception his senior year at USC, and that was in a Pete Carroll defense,” said Mays’ agent, Gary Wichard. “But you put him with the Steelers and [defensive coordinator] Dick LeBeau, and look at what he was able to do.”
Now, I have no doubt that Mays could eventually become Polamalu, a big hitting safety who can make the big play, but do so reasonably within the confines of whatever defense he plays in. I highly doubt, however, that blaming Pete Carroll for whatever unimpressive outings Mays had in his last two seasons is a stepping stone in that process.
