Dollars are what make the world go around. The lyrics to a popular rap song — actually, make that a lot of rap songs — extol the almighty "dollar bill, y'all". When Gordon Gecko said the immortal words "Greed Is Good" in the movie Wall Street, we doubt very much he was referring to the virtues of bartering goods without the paper.


Dollars — and at least up until recent times anyway, the American dollar — are the fuel which powers the economies of the world. A dollar may not buy you a gallon of gas or even a cup o' joe anymore, but a buck a day, still chases the blues away.

That said, as recent times have demonstrated, the almighty dollar is not invulnerable, nor impervious to the often fickle, constantly shifting trends of the world economy.

Inflation, Recession, and unemployment are all contributing factors in the roller coaster ride of the dollar
throughout history. In challenging economic times like these, keeping up on the latest finance news can be the difference between feast and famine, or boom to bust.
