Self reliance is the behavioral mindset coupled with actions oriented toward independence as opposed to being dependent upon others for personal needs and wants.

In the context of daily living, the term "self reliance" is often used in reference to accomplishing yourself the basic survival skills common for a person to get by. These skills include the financial aspect of earning money for food, clothing, and housing; the ability to take care of oneself physically, mentally, and spiritually are also important components of self reliance.

Finally, a popular and contemporary way of thinking about self reliance amongst bloggers concerns the use of this term in a way that dwells upon growing and harvesting your own food, making your own apparel, preparing for emergencies, and frugal living.
