thriller

Thriller is a fiction genre that employs suspense and tension to create excitement and entertain.

Thrillers use conflict and anxiety to advance the plot, and will often rely on psychological ploy to create anticipation, surprise or uncertainty, and drive the behavior of the protagonists. Modern-day thrillers are often very visual and action-packed rather than reliant on suggestive imagery, in the manner of classical thrillers.

Thrillers employ a variety of literary devices, such as red herrings, macguffins and plot twists to surprise the audience, or gritty scenery to create the setting. Its subgenres include psychological thriller, political thriller, crime thriller and paranoid thriller (a relatively recent type of fiction with a heavy focus on conspiracies and secret historical plots).
