Barnes & Noble Releases eReader for Android Phones
The only surprise is that this took so long.
After all, the Nook eReader uses Android as its operating system, so you'd think that they'd have made an Andoid version of the reader available for Android phones, too. But no. From its shaky launch (production delays) back in December until just yesterday, no such animal existed.
Now, at last, one does. Barnes & Noble has released Nook for Android, which runs on phones that have Android 1.6 or better installed. The usual eReader feature set is available, from the ability to change fonts styles and sizes to syncing with your other devices running nook eReader variant.
BN also looks to be taking a page from Amazon's branding playbook: now, rather than calling their eReader the B&N eReader, they're branding all versions with the nook name, as in nook for iPad, nook for iPhone, nook for Android, etc.
With this release,B&N has gained a little ground on Amazon's Kindle, at least in terms of mobile features (they've already released versions for BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone, PC, and Mac). The odd part is just that it took so long to gain parity.
