AMD Announces its Next Round of Microprocessors
AMD's senior vice president, Rick Bergman, teased crowds at Taiwan's Computex Expo yesterday with a new processor, codenamed Trinity. This processor is the next intended step in AMD's high-end processor line, namely the Bulldozer cored “Zambezi” chips which will be released later this month. While little information was released concerning the new Trinity Chip, it was reveled to be based on the same Bulldozer core, which supports between 2 and 8 cores, and will be compatible with the newest AM3+ socket. The chip will vary significantly however, in that it will be the first high-end processor to be classified as one of AMD's much touted Fusion APUs, since it will carry a graphics processor on-die as well. In addition to the Bulldozer upgrade, AMD also rolled out it's Z-Series processors, a line of extremely low-wattage chips aimed at cracking into the tablet market. The first of this series, the AMD Z-01, is already shipping and features dual-cores at 1Ghz and an integrated Radeon HD 6250 GPU. The chip is very low energy, requiring only 5.9W to operate.
