Blog Focus on Scheduled Google Phone Announcement
Blog Focus is Technorati's daily roundup of the top stories as told by the bloggers of the world. Each day a handful of posts, no matter how popular or nascent, will be selected by editors to portray a general unscientific reaction to discussion points around the 'Net.
Christmas comes late (or Arbor Day comes early and with a weird gift-giving component stapled into its trunk) as an event has been scheduled for January 5th by Google with an Android theme.
Assuming Larry Page and Sergey Brin haven't been cast as C-3PO and R2-D2 in the Lucasfilm remake of Perfect Strangers, this could well be the Google Nexus One (or Google Phone) dropping like it is heated to an extraordinary degree. Like its hype.
What sayeth you on the matter, blogs?
• Bits (New York Times) — Miguel Helft lays the backstory to this point out succinctly and adds that the 1/5/10 date neatly gets the Google Phone its own news cycle before CES. (Assuming Apple doesn't try the same trick by moving up its announcements before the rumored 1/26/10 date, natch.)
• Android and Me — Taylor Wimberly provides a copy of the invite for you to find hidden clues. Hint: the first letter of each line does not spell out what Google would like Microsoft to go do with itself and a Windows Mobile-enabled phone.
• Relevant Results (CNET) — Tom Krazit suggests/hopes we will also find confirmation of Google's sales strategy, perhaps in partnership with T-Mobile or ad-supported or neither.
• Boy Genius Report — The Boy Genius himself believes he's found the answer in a screenshot suggesting Google and HTC (the phone maker) will support the devices and T-Mobile will support the service (not unlike any other unlocked phone compatible with its network).
