MIX10: Mobile and Web Developers Gather for Windows Phone 7 Preview - Page 2
The re-architecture of the Windows Phone 7 experience was non-trivial for Microsoft, and the effort to perfect the user experience has come at the cost of some features developers had hoped would come along with the release, including copy and paste as well as video capture. Both of these capabilities exist on the current shipping iPhone. "They're learning well from Apple and others to put the experience first, and they're being brave and bold letting the experience drive priorities," said Shawn Morrissey, Technology Director for Frog Design. "There are a lot of features I wish had made the cut (direct access to the camera and Bluetooth support, for instance), but I'm happy to see the team did not sacrifice the experience to priroitize those features."
Microsoft has made all the tools to develop for Windows Phone 7 Series available for free in an effort to encourage more developers to enter the marketplace in time for the anticipated release of the first device, which is expected by the 2010 holiday shopping season.
