If you've ever owned a BlackBerry smartphone, you know how durable they can be. I had one as my first smartphone and can't even tell you how many times I dropped it from 4 feet off the ground. I dropped it on concrete, carpet, tile flooring, down a flight of stairs, and even into a sink half filled with water. You know what though...it kept working. Sure the trackball got stuck and dirty from time to time, but after a little TLC, it still always worked. It's my backup smartphone if things go badly for my current device to this day.

After watching these videos released by Research In Motion released on Monday, I now truly understand how my BlackBerry device had the build quality to survive the punishment I put it through. RIM makes sure that they have strong build quality along with functionality. I wish I could say that all smartphone manufacturers could boast about their devices strength like RIM can, but sadly, they can't. I've dropped other smartphones where they simply shattered on impact. But they aren't a BlackBerry. have a look at the videos below to see the tests performed in water, drop testing and bend testing. These tests give RIM insight as to where the weaknesses in the devices build are, so that they can fix them and try again. RIM has high standards for the durability of their devices, and it shows.
