Xbox Enters Virtual Reality with Milo

The new Xbox hit may be a virtual human.
Milo, the virtual boy protagonist of the game, was showcased this week at the TED (Technology Entertainment and Design) Global Conference in Oxford.
The game uses Microsoft’s Kinect controller (soon to be released) which uses sensors, cameras and microphones to capture the player’s intentions. The player will be able to interact with Milo, a virtual child character, whose personality and experiences will evolve depending on the player’s choices. Milo will be able to interact with and interpret not only the player’s actions, but also his/her emotions.
This is an exciting development for game lovers, who will be increasingly involved by the development of Milo’s character in accordance with their gaming choices. However, the game - and its certain future enhancements and developments (it’s easy to see how it may soon be released in a 3D version) - might become so real that it could capture the player’s attention in an obsessive, addictive way.
As virtual reality entertainment options expand, the question is how to learn to enjoy the experience and make it a mind-widening exploration without becoming an addiction, and perhaps forsaking real world experiences.
