Has iTunes Music Match Scrubbed the F-Bombs From Your Songs?
Remember the TV commercials long ago, where Folgers visited restaurants and secretly swapped out their finer coffee offerings with Folgers instant crystals? It would appear that Apple's iTunes Music Match service has been serving time as the Folgers Crystals of song lyrics.
According to the website Cult of Mac, Apple's fledgling Cloud-based Music Match service has been secretly replacing some of the more explicit songs in your matched collection with cleaner versions.
Music Match is a paid service that, unlike Google Music, doesn't require you to upload any of your collection to their cloud. Simply sync your iTunes collection to Music Match, and Apple will match up your music to the millions of tracks in their iTunes Store. Unfortunately, when it comes to songs laden with more colorful language, Apple would appear to perhaps prefer you lay off the F-bombs.
Cult of Mac writer Buster Heine reports that he discovered at least four of the more salty songs in his rap collection, when re-downloaded from Apple's Music Match service, were replaced for their non-explicit versions. According to their support site, this isn't the only issue Apple has been having with Music Match.
The issue is not confined to rap artists, as the comments section in Heine's article is laden with others who've had their hard rock songs swapped out on them for the more kid-friendly versions.
Just as those customers in the Folgers commercial were likely a little ticked off that they paid top dollar for a cup of instant Joe, many Music Match users aren't too happy about forking over $25 a year to have their music replaced.
